Panagiotis Damaskopoulos

Dr. Damaskopoulos is a Senior Research Fellow at INSEAD. He holds a MA and a PhD in International Political Economy with specialization in financial systems and strategies of economic competitiveness from York University, Toronto, Canada. Prior to joining INSEAD he was Chief of Studies on the process of financial integration of the European Union and its implications for capital markets and enterprises operating in the euro-zone at Reed Midem Organization (Reed-Elsevier Group) in Paris. Before moving to France Dr. Damaskopoulos was a professor of international political economy at York University, Toronto, Canada.

His current research concentrates on the dynamic interrelationships of change in global capital markets, information and communication technology-enabled organizational change and the management of the intangible knowledge-intensive aspects of capital. His main concerns in this domain are the economic, technological and organizational dynamics underpinning processes of innovation, organizational knowledge and learning capabilities, and the evolution of corporate strategies of innovation with particular emphasis on the conditions that enable the conversion of organizational knowledge into improved value creation capabilities.

Dr Damaskopoulos is co-chair of INSEAD’s initiative to organize, in collaboration with the New York Polytechnic University Institute for Technology and Enterprise, a Transatlantic Roundtable to address strategic issues of innovation in the financial services industry through the formation of a transatlantic learning community among top-level executives in leading global financial services firms. In conjunction with this work Dr. Damaskopoulos is the chief scientific investigator in several European Commission financed research projects on the changing conditions of innovation in the European Union and the strategic challenges confronted by the Enlargement Candidate Countries of the European Union. He is member of the International Steering Committee of the 4th South Eastern European Conference on the New Economy.

Dr. Damaskopoulos’ work has been presented and discussed in a number of international conferences, symposia and publications in North America, the European Union and Eastern Europe. He is currently completing a study, titled European Economic and Monetary Union: Global Finance, States and Strategic Concepts of Monetary Sovereignty, on the macro- and micro-economic implications of the process of European financial integration for the development of the intangible knowledge-intensive aspects of economic organizations (Forthcoming 2003).
